Skoda Auto India plans electric car launch by 2027-28 with local suppliers

Skoda Auto India, part of the Volkswagen group, is evaluating the launch of electric car in the country with localised supplier base, an official said on Wednesday. The company plans to enter the fast-growing Indian electric car market by 2027-28, according to the official. Skoda has a global portfolio of electric cars positioned in the premium segment. "We are evaluating to launch the electric car in India during 2027-28 after setting up a localised supplier base. By this time, we will get the time to set up the supplier base, and the charging infrastructure would also develop", brand director of Skoda Auto India Ashis Gupta told reporters here. He said that the electric car industry comprises 10 per cent to 12 per cent of the total segment and is growing very fast. By 2027-28, the right policy framework for electric cars would also be in place, Gupta said. Czech automaker Skoda Auto is gearing up to ride the 'growth train' in India, developing the country as a 'second pillar' to stand to avoid over-reliance on Europe in future, according to its CEO Klauss Zellmer. The company, which is driving the Volkswagen Group's business in India, is preparing for a "big game" in the battery electric vehicles segment in the country by fully localising the 'CMP21' platform that has been engineered and developed in China, besides looking to bring another small EV, Zellmer told PTI here. Skoda Auto India on Tuesday reported sales of 7,422 units in March. The company, which is marking its 25 years of operation in India, said the sales registered in March was the highest-ever monthly sales by the Skoda brand in India. "The 7,422 cars we sold in March 2025 is a testament to this journey taking shape, and is also the result of sustained planning, efforts and a strategy aimed at democratising European technology on Indian roads," Skoda Auto India Brand Director Petr Janeba said.

Skoda Auto India on Tuesday announced a price hike of up to 3 per cent across its range of cars, effective January 1. This adjustment is necessitated by rising input and operational costs, ensuring the company continues to deliver premium vehicles and services to its customers, Skoda Auto India said in a statement. The company is a subsidiary of European carmaker Skoda Auto. The price increase will apply to the company's entire portfolio, including the Kushaq, Slavia, Superb, and Kodiaq. "The recently launched Kylaq will remain unaffected by this adjustment until it reaches the milestone of 33,333 bookings, which are fast-filling," the company said.

Skoda Auto launches new version of Octavia, price starts at Rs 25.99 lakh

Skoda Auto India on Thursday launched the new version of its premium sedan Octavia with price starting at Rs 25.99 lakh. The fourth-generation Octavia is powered by a 2-litre petrol engine delivering power of 190 PS and returning fuel efficiency of 15.81 km/litre, Skoda Auto India said in a statement. It is available in two variants -- Style priced at Rs 25.99 lakh and Laurin & Klement tagged at Rs 28.99 lakh (ex-showroom India).
