A court here Monday allowed the NIA four-day custody of a man arrested by the agency on the charge of conspiring to carry out a suicide attack in Kerala. A NIA court granted the custody of 29-year-old Riyas A, also known as Riyas Aboobacker or Abu Dujana, who is a follower of Sri Lankan Easter bombing mastermind Zahran Hashim. Riyas was remanded to judicial custody when he was produced before the court. He was picked up on April 28 in connection with an ISIS module case. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had sought five-day custodial interrogation before the special court. According to the NIA, during interrogation soon after he was taken into custody, Riyas had disclosed that he had been following speeches and videos of Hashim for more than a year. He allegedly also followed the speeches of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. Riyas had admitted that he wanted to carry out a suicide attack in Kerala, a NIA spokesperson had said on April 29. The accused had also disclosed .
A 45-year-old central government employee committed suicide here on Monday, police said. Dushyant Kumar Sahu, an employee of the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) committed suicide by hanging himself at his government-allotted house in Summer Hill area of Shimla city on Monday evening, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pramod Shukla said. The body has been sent to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla for postmortem, the officer said. A case has been registered and inquest proceedings are underway, he added.
The Trump administration plans to allow 30,000 more foreign workers temporarily into the United States for seasonal work through the end of September, a move that reflects how the booming economy has complicated President Donald Trump's efforts to restrict legal immigration. Details of the plan were in a draft rule obtained by The Associated Press. It would benefit oyster shucking companies, fisheries, loggers and seasonal hotels, including Trump's own Mar-a-Lago club all of which use the visas to hire migrants for temporary work they say Americans won't do. The visas, known as H-2Bs, will be granted only to returning foreign workers who have had the visa before, over the last three fiscal years. Many of the visa holders return to the same employers year after year. Those workers have already been vetted and are trusted and not likely to stay past their visa, officials said. At least half a dozen former Amazon employees have reportedly sued the e-commerce giant in the last few years for discrimination because of their pregnant state.When Beverly Rosales, one of Amazon warehouses workers, told her manager when she was pregnant, she was terminated in less than two months. According to Cnet, there are seven lawsuits against Amazon, filed by workers like Rosales who were fired over the last eight years, and alleged they were subject to discrimination.The requests included longer bathroom breaks and fewer continuous hours on their feet. Two Greek men were on Monday sentenced to over 21 years in prison for the racially-aggravated murder of a Pakistani migrant worker, a verdict that could impact the landmark trial of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party, a court source said. Eight Chinese nationals, including a woman, were arrested on Monday for allegedly being involved in trafficking Pakistani girls to China by contracting marriage and forcing them in flesh trade there, the country's premier probe agency said. Last week, the Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) had arrested two Chinese nationals when the marriage ceremony was being performed in Fasialabad, about 150 kms from Lahore. "On Monday, we have arrested seven Chinese men and a Chinese woman for their alleged involvement in trafficking of Pakistani girls to China for the purpose of prostitution," FIA Punjab Director Tariq Rustam told PTI. The FIA came into action following reports of Chinese nationals being involved in organ trade and forced prostitution of Pakistani girls, mostly from the minority Christian community, after marrying them and taking them back to China. On March 27, 2017, the Deolali Camp Police in Nashik had registered a case against journalist Poonam Agarwal and war veteran Deepchand Singh under various sections for abetment of suicide of one Roy Mathew and trespassing under IPC and sections of the Official Secrets Act. The case was registered after Mathew, a sahayak with the Army, had committed suicide on February 7, 2017. According to the police, Mathew had featured in a sting operation carried out by Agarwal and Singh on the sahayak or buddy system, and committed suicide due to fear and shame.
