Madras High Court orders winding up of SpiceJet over outstanding dues

The Madras High Court has ordered the winding up of private carrier SpiceJet Limited and directed the official Liquidator attached to the High Court to take over its assets, in a plea filed by a Swiss company over unpaid dues. The court was allowing a company petition from Credit Suisse AG, a stock corporation registered under the laws of Switzerland, which prayed for winding up of the Indian firm under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1956 and appoint the Official Liquidator of the High Court as the Liquidator with all powers under Section 448 of the Companies Act to take charge of SpiceJet's assets, properties, stock in trade and books of accounts. The "respondent company (SpiceJet) has miserably failed to satisfy the three pronged test suggested by the Supreme Court in Mathusudan Govardhandas & Co. v. Madhu Woollen Industries (P) Ltd., and hence had rendered itself liable to be wound up for its inability to pay its debts under Section 433 (e) of the Companies Act 1956," ...

Budget carrier SpiceJet on Friday reported widening of net loss to Rs 561.7 crore for the quarter ended September 2021. It incurred a net loss of Rs 112.6 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Total income was Rs 1,538.6 crore in the second quarter of 2021-22. It was Rs 1,292.9 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in release. Total expenses increased to Rs 2,100.4 crore in the period under review from Rs 1,405.6 crore in the second quarter of 2020-21. The airline had incurred a net loss of Rs 729 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year. Budget carrier SpiceJet on Monday said it will launch 28 new domestic flights from October 31.

SpiceJet announces launch of 28 new domestic flights

SpiceJet will launch 28 new domestic flights across the country from October 31 onwards, the airline said Monday. It will launch multiple new non-stop flights connecting the tourist hotspots of Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan with key metros and cities as part of its new winter schedule, SpiceJet said in a statement. SpiceJet will also connect Bagdogra with Ahmedabad, Kolkata with Srinagar and add two new flights on the Bengaluru-Pune sector, it said. The government had on October 12 allowed airlines to operate domestic flights without any capacity restriction from October 18. When the government resumed the scheduled domestic flights on May 25 last year after a two-month break, the ministry allowed the carriers to operate not more than 33 per cent of their pre-Covid services. This cap was gradually increased to up to 85 per cent till September this year.
