La Liga: lvaro Morata double helps Atletico Madrid beat Mallorca 3-0

lvaro Morata scored twice to lead Atltico Madrid to a 3-0 win over Mallorca and extend its strong finish to the Spanish league. Diego Simeone's team has long been out of the title race being disputed by leader Real Madrid and second-placed Barcelona, which they trail by eight points. But Atltico is one of the hottest teams as La Liga ticks down before it shifts focus to the Champions League final eight to be played in Portugal next month. In March when the league was halted, Atltico was struggling to secure a Champions League berth for next season. It is now well on course to finishing third. Atltico has remained undefeated in seven matches since the Spanish league resumed following a three-month stoppage for the COVID-19 pandemic. "We were in a complicated situation before the stoppage, but we have been playing well since we got back to playing and have been playing with a great attitude," Morata said. Simeone's side dominated the relegation-threatened Mallorca from kickoff. Mo

England PM gives nod for the return of recreational cricket from July 11

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the resumption of recreational cricket from July 11 after Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave the green light. The ECB's announcement on Friday night came after Johnson made a U-turn after his earlier suggestion that teas and dressing rooms were among major obstacle in the amateur and grassroots game -- a traditional feature of British summertime -- returning amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "The ECB is delighted that the UK Government has given the green light for recreational cricket in England to return from Saturday 11 July," the statement said. "The latest update from the UK Government signals progression from Step 3 to Step 4 of ECB's roadmap to return for the recreational game, meaning competitive cricket matches in England with adjustments to respect hygiene and social distancing would be ...

India cricket team at forefront of fast bowling renaissance: Ian Bishop

India shifted its priorities to pace in recent times and is currently at the forefront of fast bowling renaissance, former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop said on Thursday. India's pace attack comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar has emerged as a potent force, helping the team achieve success in the World Test Championships. "India are at the forefront, the vanguard, of this fast bowling renaissance because they obviously recognised this years ago," the 52-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator said in Sony Ten's Pit Stop. "If you want to be the number one team in the world, you cannot rely on your spinners all the time because when you travel to western countries, spin is apparently only a certain stage of the game, you have to have fast bowling and India have found that." Given the rigours of playing three formats, Bishop called for managing the workload of the pacers, especially the leader of the Indian attack Jasprit ...
