Japan soccer league to resume in without fans after 4-month Covid-19 break

Japan's soccer league is back in action this weekend after a four-month delay because of the coronavirus pandemic. The resumption on Saturday comes as Tokyo reported 107 coronavirus cases on Thursday. It was the largest daily increase reported in two months, and worrying in a country that seems to have kept the virus under check. The J-League will be like most sports around the world and will play in stadiums without fans because of the pandemic. A key match will feature defending champion Yokohama facing the Urawa Reds. All 18 teams open play on Saturday. The season was stopped in February after only one round of matches. Playing against the reigning champion on the first day of resumption of the season is a great motivation for the team, Reds coach Tsuyoshi Otsuki said. Yokohama coach Ange Postecoglou, a former national coach of Australia, summed up the unknown. Obviously, it's been a long time between the last game and now," he said. A lot of training and waiting. The reality

EPL: Liverpool thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City in 1st game as champions

As they stepped onto the pitch, Liverpool's players were given a guard of honor from Manchester City. It was the only time they looked like Premier League champions on Thursday. I think they drank a lot of beers in the last week, City manager Pep Guardiola said. The dethroned champions made sure there was an abrupt comedown from the partying. A merciless attacking display sparked by City scorers Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden consigned Liverpool to a 4-0 loss exactly a week after its 30-year title drought ended. They were quicker than us in mind -- we lacked fluidity, Liverpool manager Jrgen Klopp said. "Isn't it nice another team can be champions when Man City play so well? The slack defending and lack of sharpness from Liverpool was perhaps forgivable from players who had spent the previous 31 rounds establishing an unprecedented 23-point lead to become England's earliest champions. Such an emphatic loss is not how Liverpool wanted to close out such a memorable

PGA Tour player Cameron Champ says he never had coronavirus infection

Cameron Champ lathered up his hands with sanitizer as he made the turn in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, trying to stay healthy enough to keep competing. I use it as much as I see it out there," he said after shooting a 3-under 69, putting him four shots back after the opening round. Champ was added to the field at the Detroit Golf Club under a modified PGA Tour policy that allows players who test positive for the coronavirus to be eligible if they had no symptoms and get two negative test results at least 24 hours apart. Champ, however, said he does not believe he ever had COVID-19. Through the specialist that we worked with, at this point it's clear that I never had it," he said. Still being precautious because if I happen to do get it, then it affects my family deeply." The decision to let Champ play on the eve of the tournament was the latest change to an evolving Health and Safety Plan as the tour enters its fourth week back from the pandemic-induced shutdown. Fulton quits as NZ batting coach, to take up head coach job in Canterbury

Peter Fulton has quit as New Zealand's batting coach to take up the job of head coach of the Canterbury men's team, the country's cricket board said on Thursday. Fulton, a former international player who featured in 23 Tests and 49 ODIs for New Zealand, took up the position with the national team in August 2019 and travelled to Sri Lanka and Australia besides being part of the home tours against England and India. Fulton said he had enjoyed his time with the national team but the Canterbury offer was hard to ignore. "It's been an honour to get back involved with the national team and I'd like to thank the players and staff for making me feel so welcome," the 41-year-old former right-handed batsman said in a statement on New Zealand Cricket (NZC) website. "The Canterbury role appealed to me in terms of my aspirations to be a head coach and further my development in the game. "The chance to spend more time at home with my young family and coach my home province were also motivating
