Lloris urges Tottenham to learn from mistakes

Captain Hugo Lloris has warned Tottenham they risk blowing their Premier League and Champions League hopes unless they cut out the errors after a nervy win against Wolves. Mauricio Pochettino's side, cruising at 3-0 midway through the second half, weathered a late fightback from the home side to win 3-2 at Molineux on Saturday. Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane put Spurs in control before league debutant Juan Foyth gave away two spot-kicks, converted by Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez. Goalkeeper Lloris warned that Spurs had to tighten up after losing leads against Inter Milan and PSV in Europe already this season. "We need to learn," he said. "It is not the first time this has happened in the Champions League and in the league that the opponent created chances in the last minutes of the game. It is something we need to improve. "It is the responsibility of the players. Of course the manager has his expectations and so do the staff and I think they try to give us the main tools and

'Unsettled' Dhawan moves to Daredevils from Sunrisers

Sunrisers Hyderabad have traded an "unsettled" Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils in a move that will see the India opener play for the IPL franchise of his home city after 10 years. In exchange of Dhawan, Delhi have released all-rounder Vijay Shankar, spinner Shahbaz Nadeem and the young Abhishek Sharma to Sunrisers. Dhawan was bought back by Sunrisers in the auction earlier this year through Right to Match card for Rs 5.2 crore. The southpaw was unhappy about his price tag, leading to the move to Delhi where he played in the inaugural IPL in 2008. "It is with a heavy heart that we announce that one of our long standing players, Shikhar Dhawan, will be playing for another franchise in 2019. We were delighted to pick Shikhar up in the auction after using one of its RTM cards," said Sunrisers in a statement. Accept our olive branch: AIBA President Rakhimov to IOC

Newly-elected International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Gafur Rakhimov has urged the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to accept an "olive branch" from his organisation while promising to continue his efforts to save boxing's Olympic status. Rakhimov, who is accused of having links to organised crime by the US Treasury department, was elected to the top post on Saturday despite warnings from the IOC that it would jeopardise boxing's future at the Olympics. The IOC has threatened to take the sport off the 2020 Tokyo Games roster citing "governance issues" in the AIBA -- Rakhimov at the helm being a key concern for it. In a statement issued Sunday night, Rakhimov said the IOC's concerns about governance, anti-doping and financial management are being addressed. "As an organisation, we at AIBA have made huge progress. We moved forward in our transparency, our governance, our statutes, our refereeing & judging rules, our anti-doping and our finance procedures. I am proud ..

England taking no chances with injured Bairstow

England's Jonny Bairstow is out of the first Test against Sri Lanka as he recovers after injuring himself playing football, coach Trevor Bayliss said. The wicketkeeper-batsman hurt his ankle playing football in a training session and missed the last two games of the five-match ODI series, which England won 3-1. "No, he's not available for this Test match," Bayliss told sports radio station talkSPORT. "He has come on a long way in the last week or so but with another winter tour and a big summer we didn't necessarily want to risk it." Jos Buttler or the uncapped Ben Foakes will take up the wicketkeeping duties for the opening Test of the three-match series starting Tuesday in Galle. England played three wicketkeepers in their first two-day warm-up game in Colombo with Ollie Pope also rotating with Foakes and Buttler. "They're both (Buttler and Foakes) still very much in our thinking and that will probably come down to the combination we want to play," said Bayliss. "Definitely one of ..

We paid for reckless batting: Allen

The West Indies batsmen paid the price for being too aggressive on not the "best" Eden Gardens pitch, said debutant Fabian Allen after the five-wicket loss in the T20 series opener against India. Allen made 27 from 20 balls to take the total to 109/8 after debutant Krunal Pandya and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav choked West Indies in the middle, reducing them to 87/8 in 18 overs. The 23-year-old said it was not the best of wickets and a score of 150 would have made the game competitive. "It was not the best wicket but we had to be patient, should have played the ball on merit. We were too aggressive; I think we could have easily got 150 or 140, that was the target we were looking for," Allen said at the post-match news conference on Sunday. The reigning World T20 champions had a four-match unbeaten run coming into the match but they were undone by some fine spin bowling. "It's one of those days. We will look to come back in the next game. I hope we learn from this and take it to our next ...

Spanish league and federation split over 2nd game in US

Another game, another argument. The sports and entertainment group backing the Spanish league's bid to take a regular-season soccer game to the United States says it was contacted by the Spanish federation to discuss holding a separate game the Super Cup final in the country. The federation, which has raised its concerns over the planned Barcelona-Girona league game near Miami in January, denied the claim by the Relevent group on Sunday. The federation said it had never sought the help of any company to take the "Supercopa" to the U.S. In Spain, the league oversees the first and second divisions, while the federation organizes tournaments such as the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. The Super Cup pits the Spanish league champion against the Copa del Rey winner in a one-match final at the start of the season. This year's game was played between Barcelona and Sevilla in Tangier, Morocco. The federation told The Associated Press it was Relevent that proposed having the Super Cup game in
