Having a caused a major upset, the Netherlands will have a spring in their side when they take on a struggling Sri Lanka in the World Cup here on Saturday. The Netherlands, who stunned South Africa in Dharamsala for their first World Cup win against a Test playing nation, will be eying an improved show from their top-order as they look for back to back victories. The top three Vikramjit Singh, Max O'Dowd and Colin Ackermann have not been to get the team off to a good start, putting additional pressure on the middle-order. A morale boosting win over South Africa will provide an extra dose of confidence to the trio ahead of the Sri Lanka clash. Star all-rounder Bas de Leede is doing his bit with the ball but can step on the batting front. A disappointed Pathum Nissanka said anything close to 300 would have been a challenging total but Sri Lanka failed to sustain a promising start against Australia in a World Cup match here. Nissanka (61) and fellow opener Kushal Perera (78) gave Sri Lanka an ideal start on Monday, stitching a 125-run partnership but the Island nation suffered an unexpected batting collapse, losing all 10 wickets for just 84 runs to put up a below-par 209 on the board. The Australians grabbed the opportunity with Josh Inglis (58) and Mitchell Marsh (52) scoring half-centuries each to take their side to a five-wicket win in 35.2 overs, their first victory in three matches. "Despite our promising start, we deeply regret not being able to sustain it, resulting in us being limited to a score of 210 runs," Nissanka said at the post-match press conference. "On a wicket like this, I believe we should aim for a total closer to 300 runs, and this was a contributing factor for our defeat." Nissanka's 61 off 6

Forced to treat every game as a final due to their awful start, skipper Pat Cummins on Sunday said Australia are fired up to perform against teams that they have done well against in the recent past. Australia were crushed by hosts India in their opener before stumbling to a 134-run defeat to South Africa on Thursday. The Men from Down Under find themselves in a precarious position to win at least six of their remaining seven games to make the semifinals. However, Cummins is not pressing the panic button just yet. "Looking back at 2019, India and South Africa were the two teams that we lost to in the round games there. In the last year, they're kind of the two teams that we've had the most trouble against. "So, the opportunity now is we've got some teams we haven't played for a while that we've had a lot of success against and be really confident when we go out there," Cummins said on the eve of the match against Sri Lanka here. Both teams are in search of their maiden win in the tournament. While Australia suffered humiliating losses against India and South Africa, Sri Lanka faltered against the Proteas and Pakistan. Australia have looked like a pale shadow of their dominant selves in this tournament. The five-time champions sit ninth in the 10-team league table owing to their horrendous Net Run Rate (-1.846), while the Lankans are 7th on the table with a NRR of -1.161. The Aussies desperately need to get their act together if they want to keep their fate in their own hands. But it is easier said than done. The ICC Event Technical Committee has approved Chamika Karunaratne as Shanaka's replacement. Sri Lanka have lost their opening two matches in the tournament to South Africa and Pakistan. The 32-year-old Shanaka had made a 62-ball 68 against South Africa in New Delhi when they chased an imposing 429. Karunaratne is a middle-order batter and right-arm medium pacer who has played 23 ODIs for the Islanders. The 27-year-old has taken 24 wickets from 23 matches and has scored 443 runs with a fifty.
