Andhra accident: PM condoles loss of lives, announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the loss of lives in the train accident in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh and spoke to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to take stock of the situation. At least eight persons died and around 20 were injured in the accident involving two trains, according to officials. The prime minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased due to the train derailment between Alamanda and Kantakapalle section. The injured would be given Rs 50,000, the Prime Minister's Office posted on X. "PM Narendra Modi spoke to Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and took stock of the situation in the wake of the unfortunate train derailment...," the PMO said. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected, it said. "The prime minister extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the injured recover soon," the PMO said.

Andhra accident likely due to human error, overshooting of signal: ECoR

East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Sunday said a human error could have resulted in the collision of two trains in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district. At least eight people were killed and 20 others injured in the collision of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train with the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special this evening, according to officials. Likely reason: Human error. Overshooting of the signal by Visakhapatnam- Rayagada passenger train, ECoR CPRO Biswajit Sahoo told reporters here. While explaining the term overshooting, the CPRO said it occurs when a train, instead of stopping at a red signal, moves on. Two coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train from the rear and the loco of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger were derailed as a result of the accident, the railway official said, adding that rescue operations are underway. Two coaches of Patalkot Express train caught fire in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday afternoon, leaving at least nine passengers injured, officials said. The train was heading to Seoni in Madhya Pradesh from Firozpur Cantonment in Punjab when the fire broke out in the third and fourth coaches from the engine around 3.45 pm, they said. Agra Railway Division PRO Prashasti Srivastava said the cause of the fire was not immediately known. "A fire incident in Patalkot Express has been reported between Bhandai and Jajau in NCR (North Central Railway), Agra Division.... Two coaches have been completely burnt. 13 killed, several others injured after 2 trains collide in Bangladesh

At least 13 people were killed and several others injured on Monday when a passenger train collided with a freight train in Bangladesh, officials said. The accident took place when the passenger train headed from Kishoreganj to Dhaka collided with the freight train around 4:15 pm. Bihar accident: Delhi-bound up line restored, work underway on down line

High-level inquiry ordered into Bihar rail accident, many trains diverted

Indian Railways cancelled ten trains and diverted 21 after several coaches of 12506 Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed near the Raghunathpur station in Bihar's Buxar district on Wednesday killing at least four people and injuring many others. The derailment occurred at 9:53 pm and at least two AC III Tier coaches had toppled over while four other coaches jumped the tracks. Buxar Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar told PTI four passengers had died in the accident. A Railway Police Force official the injured had been shifted to local hospitals. Several coaches of 12506 North East Express (Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam) derailed near Raghunathpur station in Bihar's Buxar district on Wednesday. Talking to PTI, chief public relations officer of East Central Railway Birendra Kumar said, "Several coaches of Kamakhya-bound North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district around 9.35 pm. No casualty reports so far." Though preliminary reports suggest no casualty so far, there is information that some passengers might have sustained minor injuries, said Kumar. "We have sent rescue and medical teams to the spot. The railways has also issued emergency helpline numbers for passengers. These are 9771449971 (Patna), 8905697493 (Danapur), 8306182542 (Ara), 8306182542 and 7759070004," he said. A woman sustained minor injuries when a local train climbed onto a platform at the Mathura Junction Railway Station, an official said on Wednesday. The Railways has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter, he said. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday expressed grief over the deaths in a fire that broke out inside a stationary train compartment at the Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu.
