Over 2,500 FIRs, 3,900 arrests under UP's Mission Shakti 5.0 campaign

More than 2,500 FIRs were registered and nearly 3,900 people arrested across Uttar Pradesh under the Mission Shakti 5.0 campaign, launched on the first day of Navratra by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials said on Saturday. The campaign aims to empower women by promoting self-reliance, social inclusion and security. Under the statewide drive, police intensified efforts to enhance women's safety and strengthen public trust, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement. Additional Director General (ADG) (Women and Child Security Wing) Padmaja Chauhan, the nodal officer of Mission Shakti, said Anti-Romeo Squads increased surveillance across public spaces, including temples, markets, malls and parks. 5 arrested for putting up 'I love Muhammad' poster in UP's Meerut

A case has been registered against five people for allegedly putting up an "I love Muhammad" poster in a town here, police said on Saturday. According to police, the poster was put up on Friday night at the main intersection of Mawana town. On Saturday morning, locals objected to the poster and staged a protest. Mawana Station House Officer (SHO) Poonam Jadon said based on the complaint lodged by outpost in-charge Manoj Sharma, a case has been registered against -- Idrish, Tasleem, Rihan, Gulfam, and Haroon -- under section 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for putting up the poster. All five have been arrested, she said, adding that action will be taken against anyone who is found involved in the incident. NCRB data shows lower crime rate than national average in UP: State Police

Despite Uttar Pradesh having the highest population in the country, the crime rate in the state in 2023 stood at 181.3, much below the national crime rate of 270.3, the state police said on Wednesday, quoting the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data. Uttar Pradesh accounts for 16.98 per cent of the total population in the country. Crime rate, defined as the number of crimes per one lakh population, is considered the most reliable indicator for assessing a state's law and order situation, as it adjusts for population size and growth, the state police said in a statement. An analysis showed that Uttar Pradesh ranks favourably across various crime heads. Trade shows to be held in all 75 UP districts from October 9: UP Minister

The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday announced that eight-day trade shows will be organised across all 75 districts of the state from October 9 to 16, where entrepreneurs will be provided free stalls to showcase and promote their products on a wider scale. UP police detain cleric Tauqeer Raza after Bareilly protest turns violent

Police on Saturday detained Tauqeer Raza Khan, a local cleric and chief of Ittehad-e-Millat Council, whose call for a protest supporting the 'I love Muhammad' campaign led to a violent clash between demonstrators and police after Friday prayers in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, officials said on Saturday. UP, Gujarat, Odisha among 16 revenue-surplus states in FY23: CAG report

As many as 16 states were in revenue surplus during 2022-23, with Uttar Pradesh topping the chart with Rs 37,263 crore, followed by Gujarat and Odisha, according a CAG report. As per the fiscal responsibility and fiscal consolidation path prescribed by the XV Finance Commission, the states were required to have either zero-revenue deficit or become revenue surplus during 2022-23. "As on 31st March 2023, 16 states, out of the total 28 states, were revenue surplus and 12 were in revenue deficit," said the publication on State Finances 2022-23, the first-of-its-kind by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Revenue receipts of these 16 states exceeded their revenue expenditure. Case filed against 200 people after violent protest in UP's Shahjahanpur

Police here have registered a case against 200 unknown people in connection with the protest that erupted here on Friday following objectionable social media posts against Prophet Muhammad and the Quran. This came after police arrested a 45-year-old man for his derogatory social media posts against Prophet Muhammad and the Quran. Soon after the arrest on Friday, several people tried to enter the police station around 9 pm and raised slogans amid the protest that turned violent as they set two two-wheelers on fire. They did not relent even after the police explained to them that the man behind such posts had been arrested. Uttar Pradesh is set to unveil 'Anokhi Duniya', the world's first-ever park crafted entirely from ceramic waste, according to officials. Built in Khurja, the state's renowned "ceramic capital," the park is slated to open to the public by the end of September. Vintage car owners in UP can now register vehicles under MoRTH rules

Vintage vehicle enthusiasts in Uttar Pradesh can now register their prized cars and bikes in the "vintage" category, with the state transport department starting the facility in line with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' (MoRTH) 2021 notification. Officials on Monday said the move will provide clarity, ease of compliance and help preserve the heritage value of these vehicles. The facility has been rolled out under the provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
