The death toll in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda has risen to four, while 31 people were injured in the incident, an official said on Friday. Eight coaches of the train had derailed between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations, about 150 km from the state capital, on the Gonda-Gorakhpur section of the Northeast Railway on Thursday afternoon. District Magistrate of Gonda, Neha Sharma, said, "So far, four passengers have died and 32 are injured. Of the injured passengers, the condition of around half a dozen is critical." "The deceased include Rahul, 38, Saroj Kumar Singh, 31, and two unknown passengers. The body of one of the unknown passengers was retrieved on Friday morning," Sharma said. She said two of the critically injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Lucknow's trauma centre. The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to set up an early lightning detection and warning system in a bid to prevent casualties caused by lightning strikes in the state especially during the monsoon season, officials said on Saturday. They said the Uttar Pradesh Lightning Alert Management System will be set up in three phases. According to the state's relief department, 84 people have died in lightning strikes so far this month across Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 43 people died in a 24-hour period from 6:30 pm on July 10. The toll is even higher than the number of fatalities caused by lightning strikes in the state during last year's monsoon -- which according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) was 41. Another IMD report said Uttar Pradesh ranks among the states with the highest lightning strike casualties in the country. The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a PIL seeking a probe into the Hathras stampede that left 121 dead, and asked the petitioner to move the Allahabad High Court. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said such incidents are disturbing but the high courts are equipped to deal with such cases. "Of course, these are disturbing incidents. This (filing of PIL) is usually done here to make a big deal of such incidents. The high court is equipped to deal with this case. Dismissed," the bench said. It asked lawyer and petitioner Vishal Tiwari to move the Allahabad High Court and disposed of the PIL.
