IS claims attack on Saudi security base

Four men were killed Sunday in an attack on a Saudi security services base north of the capital Riyadh, official media said, as the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the assault. Quoting a spokesman for the state security services, the Saudi Press Agency said three policemen were also wounded in the morning attack in the Zulfi province north of Riyadh. It said a "group of terrorists" tried to "storm the building" but security authorities repelled them, killing four. An investigation was launched to identify the assailants as well as the type of "explosive material" they had in their possession, SPA said. The London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper earlier reported that the attack targeted state security forces in the town of Zulfi, 260 kilometres north of the capital. It said the attackers had rammed a vehicle into a security barrier around the base in an attempt to gain entry. Patnaik condemns Sri Lanka blasts

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday condemned the serial blasts in Sri Lanka that killed 215 people, and said such "dastardly acts" have no place in civilised societies. "Strongly condemn the gruesome terror attacks in #Colombo, Sri Lanka. Such dastardly acts on peaceful congregations and citizens have no place in civilised societies," Patnaik said in a twitter post. "My sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wish strength to the government and people of #SriLanka," he added. Cash worth $113 mn seized at Bashir's home: Sudan army ruler

Sudan's army ruler General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said Sunday that more than 113 million dollars worth of cash in three currencies has been seized from ousted leader Omar al-Bashir's residence. He said a team of police, army and security agents found seven million euros (USD 7.8 million), USD 350,000 and five billion Sudanese pounds (USD105 million) during a search at Bashir's home. Sudan's new acting prosecutor general Al-Waleed Sayyed Ahmed meanwhile asked authorities to register all private properties belonging to officials of the previous regime, the official SUNA news agency reported. He also asked them to stop processing requests for the transfer of ownership of properties that belonged to former regime officials and members of their families.

Several Americans were among the more than 200 people killed Sunday in a series of bombings of hotels and churches in Sri Lanka, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. The UN leadership strongly condemned the string of attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday that killed over 200 people, with chief of the world body Antonio Guterres saying he was "outraged" by the devastating blasts.
