COA has written to ICC not to remove Dhoni's army insignia, says Vinod Rai

COA chief Vinod Rai on Friday said that they have written to the ICC not to remove wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni's army insignia. However, he acknowledged if the apex cricketing body is against it, they will take the permission."We are convinced that ICC rules say it should not have any religious, military or commercial significance, any insignia worn by any player. One should conform to ICC rules," Rai told the reporters."In this particular case that insignia has none of those connotations. So we are going to tell the ICC that it need not be removed. But in any case, if they feel, we will take the permission as we had taken permission from the ICC when camouflage caps were worn because we believe in conforming to norms of the game. If the ICC has set of norms we will go by that," he added. When asked whether the COA has spoken to Dhoni, Rai immediately refused. India seeks permission for Dhoni's dagger insignia gloves; ICC unlikely to play ball

The dagger insignia on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's wicket-keeping gloves put India's cricket administrators on collision course with the ICC after the BCCI declined the world body's "request" to have it removed, instead seeking permission for the star player to sport it. Dhoni will continue sporting the insignia on his gloves as it is not a military symbol, asserted Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai. However, the world body is unlikely to accept that stand as the rule-book allows for only one sponsor's logo on the wicket-keeping gloves. In Dhoni's case, he already sports an SG logo on his gloves. Allowing the insignia would amount to "equipment sponsorship violation". During India's opening World Cup game against South Africa in Southampton, Dhoni's green keeping gloves had a dagger logo embossed, which looked more like an Army insignia. "The BCCI had already sent a formal request to the ICC for clearance. As per ICC regulations, players can't sport any commercial, ...

India seeks ICC approval for Dhoni's Army insignia gloves, world body deliberates

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue sporting the dagger insignia on his wicket-keeping gloves as it is not a military symbol, Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai asserted Friday amid the ICC evaluating a BCCI request seeking permission for it. During India's opening World Cup game against South Africa in Southampton, Dhoni's green keeping gloves had a dagger logo embossed, which looked more like an Army insignia. "The BCCI had already sent a formal request to the ICC for clearance. As per ICC regulations, players can't sport any commercial, religious or military logo. There was nothing commercial or religious in this regard as we all know," Rai told PTI over phone. "And it is not the paramilitary regimental dagger that is embossed in his gloves.
