Rain/Thundershowers very likely in Lucknow today: IMD

The Meteorological Centre has predicted rain/thundershowers accompanied with hail in the next three hours (valid up to 18Along with Lucknow, some places in Bijnor, Barabanki, Bahraich, Gonda districts and adjoining areas are likely to witness rain and thundershowers."Three more WDs are likely to affect western Himalayan region & northern plains and subsequently northeast India in a successive manner," stated IMD in its weather forecast.Earlier in the morning, parts of Delhi/NCR witnessed thunderstorm and gusty winds owing to an intense Western Disturbance over the northern region.The air quality is likely to improve in coming days as wind direction in north India changing from westerly to southerly resulting in relatively less moisture in the air and reduced air holding capacity.

Flood cess' not from April: Kerala FM

: The CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala Wednesday said it would not impose from this April, the "flood cess" announced in the state budget to mobilise additional revenue. Replying during the discussion on the state budget in the Assembly, Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac said the new cess would come into force only from the date of its notification. "Usually, when a tax is announced in the budget, it will come into force from April 1. But the flood cess will come into effect only from the date of notification," he said, adding that necessary amendments, subject to conditions, would be made in this regard. Explaining the reasons, the minister said that before introducing the 'flood cess', it should be discussed in the Goods and Services Tax Network, for which some more time was needed. Minimum temperatures hover above normal in Punjab, Haryana

Minimum temperatures on Wednesday hovered a few notches above the normal limits across Punjab and Haryana, a MeT Department official said here. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius, he said. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a low of 8.8 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana's minimum temperature settled at 8.9 degrees Celsius. Patiala registered a minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius, he said. Bathinda, Adampur, Halwara, Pathankot and Faridkot recorded minimum temperatures at 10.7 degrees Celsius, 9.3 degrees Celsius, 10.8 degrees Celsius, 11.9 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively. Ambala in Haryana recorded a low of 10.6 degrees Celsius while Hisar registered a minimum temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius, the official said. Clear skies in Delhi; Met forecasts rain, hail storm for tomorrow

Clear skies prevailed in the city Tuesday, with the maximum temperature rising to settle at 25 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. The minimum temperature settled at 9 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Department (Met) said. The weatherman said that the national capital might witness moderate rainfall and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds and even a hailstorm at some places from Tuesday evening due to a prevailing western disturbance over the entire northwest India. The humidity during the day oscillated between 100 and 55 per cent, the Met said. It said that the sky will be generally cloudy on Wednesday. Cold weather persists in Delhi, two dozen trains running late

Clear skies in Delhi during day, dense fog in morning disrupts flight, rail traffic

Clear skies prevailed in the national capital during the day with the maximum temperature settling at 23.2 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum settled at 8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. Thick fog engulfed the national capital in the morning delaying 27 trains and disrupting flight operations. The visibility at Safdarjung at 5.30 am was recorded at 200 metres that reduced to 100 metres at 8.30 am, a meteorological department official said. At Palam, the visibility was 50 metres at 5.30 am and 8.30 am which led to disruption of flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International airport. HP likely to witness heavy snowfall, rain in next 4 days

Himachal Pradesh is very likely to witness a fresh spell of snowfall in the high and mid hills, and rain in the low hills and plains from Monday night to Friday, the Meteorological Department (Met) here said. Stating that an active western disturbance is likely to affect the state from Monday night, the Met centre in Shimla issued a warning of heavy snowfall and rain for Wednesday and Friday. The Met centre said heavy snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Kullu, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, Shimla, Kangra and Kinnaur districts on February 6 and very heavy rainfall is expected on February 7. A thick blanket of fog engulfed many parts of Punjab and Haryana on Monday even as most of the places shivered under intense cold, MeT officials said. Dense fog was witnessed in the morning at many places, including Chandigarh, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Adampur, Halwara, Bathinda and Farikdot, a Meteorological (MeT) department official said. In Haryana, Narnaul turned out to be the coldest place recording a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius, he said. Only trucks carrying essential goods allowed to move on Jammu-Srinagar highway

Kashmir-bound trucks carrying essential commodities were allowed to continue their journey to Srinagar, as authorities Monday allowed restricted traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, officials said. Restrictions were put on vehicular movement on the 270-km highway due to heavy snowfall last week near the Jawahar Tunnel and landslides near the Banihal-Ramban stretch. The highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, was opened on Sunday, but with restrictions. "Only heavy motor vehicles, stranded on the highway for the past several days, were allowed towards Srinagar from the Jammu side.
