Yamaha expects 25% export growth this yr, plans Chennai unit as global hub

Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha expects exports from India to grow 25 per cent this year and is making its Chennai factory the export hub for global market, especially to advanced countries, according to a top company official. The company, which exports to around 55 countries from India, will be exploring more international markets in a bid to increase exports from India, Yamaha Motor Co Ltd Senior Executive Officer and Yamaha Motor India Group Chairman, Itaru Otani told PTI. "We are trying to achieve a big growth, like by 25 per cent this year on exports," he said when asked how the company is looking at its exports from India this year. India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd had posted a 33.4 per cent growth in exports at 2,95,728 units in 2024-25 as compared to 2,21,736 units in 2023-24. Sharing the company's export strategy, Otani said,"The Chennai factory of Yamaha will be the export hub for the global markets, especially to advanced countries like the US, Europe, and then Japan." Bombay HC quashes order refusing trademark to Yamaha, directs fresh review

In a relief to Japanese automobile company Yamaha, the Bombay High Court has set aside an order refusing it a trademark similar to one already registered by Honda Motor Company and directed the registrar, Trade Marks, to adjudicate the issue afresh. A bench of Justice Manish Pitale on June 13 said while a bare perusal of the two trademarks Yamaha's WR and Honda's WR-V may cause confusion in the minds of the public, the authority ought to have considered the case as exceptional circumstances and issued an advertisement seeking objections from the public before rejecting Yamaha's application. The court stated the authority, in its "cryptic" order, completely ignored the claim of Yamaha's international reputation while refusing the application and the fact that the company has been using the WR trademark internationally since 1990. Itaru Otani named new chairman of Yamaha India, brings 30 yrs of experience

India Yamaha Motor on Friday said it has appointed Itaru Otani as the new Chairman. Otani brings over three decades of experience with Yamaha Motor Company, having held key leadership roles across global markets, including Australia, Brazil and Japan, the company said in a statement. Prior to this role, he served as Chief General Manager, leading the Land Mobility Business Operations based out of Japan, it added. "The aspirations of Indian consumers are evolving rapidly, and we see incredible opportunities to bring in products that blend Yamaha's global expertise with the unique needs and desires of Indian riders," Otani said. Two-wheeler major India Yamaha Motor has unveiled a new variant of its popular 155cc motorcycle R15M equipped with a Carbon Fibre Pattern graphic design at Rs 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Equipped with 155cc liquid-cooled engine, the R15M variant aligns with Yamaha's 'Call of the Blue' brand campaign. "Yamaha motorcycles are well known for their exhilarating performance, exciting agility and eye-catching sporty design. Since its launch in 2008, the R15 has embodied class leading performance and has enabled numerous consumers in India to experience the joy of riding a SuperSport motorcycle with thoroughbred Yamaha Racing DNA", Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, Chairman Eishin Chihana said in a company statement. India Yamaha Motor launches R3 and MT-03 as completely built units

Two-wheeler major India Yamaha Motor has launched its latest sports motorcycles -- R3 and MT-03 -- widening its product portfolio in the domestic market, the company said on Wednesday. The two products -- the track-oriented R3 and the street fighter MT-03 -- have been launched as part of the brand campaign -- The Call of the Blue -- and would be sold in the country as 'completely built-up units' (CBUs). "These two iconic motorcycles truly represent Yamaha's racing DNA and underscore the brand's unwavering commitment to advancing the premium motorcycle segment in the Indian market," a company statement said. The R3 motorcycle is priced at Rs 4,64,900 while the MT-03 is priced at Rs 4,59,900 (ex-showroom Delhi).
