97,000 persons convicted in UP under 'operation conviction' since 2023

Under UP government's "Operation Conviction" launched in 2023, over 97,000 persons have been convicted till mid June, an official statement on Tuesday said. "Launched on July 1, 2023, Operation Conviction has proven to be a game-changer, leading to the conviction of 97,158 criminals between July 2023 and mid-June," ADG prosecution Deepesh Juneja said. Juneja said of the 1,14,029 identified cases, 74,388 cases were disposed of. Under the campaign, 68 accused persons were sentenced to death, 8,172 received life imprisonment, 1,453 were sentenced to over 20 years, and 87,465 were given up to 20 years' imprisonment. The data showed the government's commitment to delivering swift and decisive justice, particularly in cases involving serious crimes, he added. Targeting organised crime, the statement said, 395 accused were convicted in 272 cases involving the top 10 criminals. President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Bareilly on Monday for the 11th convocation ceremony of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, officials said. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials of all districts to submit proposals for road infrastructure development under the Public Works Department's schemes by June 30. UP govt to relocate families affected by Banke Bihari corridor project

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rehabilitate families affected by the upcoming Banke Bihari Corridor project in Vrindavan to the Rukmini Vihar and Sunrakh Bangar areas of the Mathura-Vrindavan region, the district administration here said. The corridor, which is planned to be constructed on 5.5 acres of land surrounding the iconic Thakur Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, will impact several families, including sevayats (temple caretakers), shopkeepers, and local residents, it said in a statement on Wednesday evening. District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh said the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) has selected land in Rukmini Vihar and Sunrakh Bangar to rehabilitate 275 affected families. Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank posts net profit of Rs 100 crore in 2025

The Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank on Wednesday reported a net profit of Rs 100 crore in 2025, on the back of increased lending activity and improved management practices. The total business stood at Rs 41,234 crore, reflecting its growing role in the rural economy, according to a statement. "The bank's net profit, which stood at Rs 32.82 crore in 2017, has now crossed Rs 100 crore -- registering a threefold increase. "This remarkable growth highlights not only increased lending activity but also the impact of improved management practices and enhanced transparency," it added. In 2017, the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank disbursed loans worth Rs 9,190 crore.
