The retail store audit on ice creams in kolkata, conducted by A C Neilsen ORG MARG Ltd, said during April 2003 - March 2004, Metro Dairy's ice cream had a 44 per cent market share of the total volume of ice cream retailed in Greater Kolkata.
 
The shares of other players in the market during the same period were 23 per cent for Kwality-Walls, 12 per cent for Rollick, 7 per cent for Amul and 4 per cent for Big Ones.
 
According to A C Neilsen's Retail Store Audit, 44.1 lakh litres of ice cream, valued at Rs 40 crore, were retailed in the metropolis during the year.
 
According to the study, the market for ice cream grew by 13 per cent during the year, from 38.9 lakh litres of ice cream retailed in 2002-2003.
 
Metro Dairy, was set up under the Operation Flood programme, totally funded by the World Bank.
