Unaccounted Indian currency worth Rs 39.97 lakh has been seized from a passenger bound for Sri Lanka at Chennai airport, customs officials said today.
Acting on a tip-off, customs officials intercepted the passenger bound for Colombo late last night and seized the currency from his baggage, they said.
The passenger, hailing from Ramanathapuram, was detained for questioning.
Further investigations were on, they added.
