ABB bags Rs 186 cr KPTCL order

Bs Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
ABB in India has been awarded a turnkey contract valued at Rs 186 crore by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) to implement an integrated network management system which will help exercise supervisory control and also data acquisition.

The scope of the project stretches from design to commissioning and should be completed in 24 months.

"KPTCL project is yet another example of how technology can help bring greater grid reliability and efficiency through better monitoring, control and network management", said Ravi Uppal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director ABB India.

The system will monitor and control 830 main transmission and distribution substations spread across Karnataka, including Bangalore.

This initiative will significantly help strengthen the transmission and distribution network for KPTCL and its constituent distribution utilities.

The solution for KPTCL incorporates energy and distribution management applications such as load-sharing technology and availability-based tariffs, which encourage users to keep to pre-arranged schedules.

These features enable better planning and help to maintain a steady supply of power under normal conditions.
