BCC, KPTCL, Escoms promote power from waste

Our Bureau Chennai/ Bangalore
In an effort to promote the conversion of municipal waste into power, the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) and electricity supply companies (Escoms) have agreed not to levy wheeling charges, banking and cross subsidy surcharges if power is sold to third parties like the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC).

This was conveyed by State Power Procurement Coordination Cell director Pratap Kumar on behalf of the KPTC and Escoms at a public hearing conducted by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) last week on converting municipal waste into power, according to a KERC press release.

The BCC informed the public hearing that land will be provided at nominal rates to commence production of power from waste. Bangalore generates nearly 3,000 tonnes of waste every day.

"The BCC has also agreed to provide capital and other basic infrastructure to project promoters," the release added.
