Dairy products will be significant for Britannia's growth: MD

Britannia Industries today said dairy products, which contribute close to 10 per cent of its revenue, will be a significant growth sector for the company in future.
"The contribution of the dairy sector is just little less than 10 per cent in the total revenues of the company. Dairy for us has been growing in high double digits... Not just in terms of top-line, but also in terms of profitability. Dairy is going to be a very significant growth sector for Britannia," Britannia Industries Managing Director Vinita Bali told reporters here.
With diverse products in the biscuits segment in its fold, including popular brands like Good Day, 50-50, Treat and Nutrichoice, Britannia Industries is also engaged in the bakery and dairy products business.
"The future plans certainly are to continue to grow dairy at a double digit after starting with cheese, dahi and others," she said in reply to a query.
Declining to give any figures on the dairy category’s expected contribution to Britannia in the coming months, Bali said, "I am not going to give any numbers, but the contribution of dairy in the overall portfolio of Britannia has increased in the last three to four years and you will continue to see a higher growth in dairy.”
Replying to a query on the fall in the company's revenues, Bali said, "We had a decline in market share in the first half of last year and that was arrested in the second half of last year and from July onwards, we have not had any decline in the market share and that’s the fact."
The entire profit of the bakery industry has been dragged down as a result of the unprecedented and large increase in commodity prices, she said adding, "The entire profit pool of the bakery industry has come down and it’s not just about any one company. But we are addressing it through two key strategies - revenue management and cost effectiveness and enhancement initiatives."
Vinod Menon, Head of Dairy Business, Britannia Industries, said the company, which has 12 units across the country, will be adding three more co-packers units.
Britannia Industries Ltd today launched 'TigerZor Choco Milk', a milk-based chocolate drink for children, here.
The product is manufactured at its own unit at Vikarabad, in Andhra Pradesh. It is enriched with five active nutrients that help in the overall development of mind and body, according to Bali.
'TigerZor Choco Milk' is a micro-nutrient fortification drink which was launched simultaneously in Hyderabad and Bangalore, Bali said, adding that the company will launch the product in other markets in the South and West over the course of this year.
Priced at Rs 17 per 150 ml bottle, 'TigerZor Choco Milk' is available in chocolate flavour, with a shelf life of four months.
