DLF, the integrated real estate development firm which has a major presence in north India, is now eyeing south India for further expansion.

Close to 50 per cent of the 25 million square feet of office space it plans to create will be in the south.

The company recently bought Bhoruka's factory land on the Mahadevapura Main Road in Whitefield on which it plans to build 1.7 million square feet of office space.

There will be four office blocks and one signature building. Christened DLF Technopolis@Bangalore, the project has been designed with a fusion of open and covered spaces.

"Under the first phase of construction, we have taken up 2.50 lakh square feet of office space and the entire space has been committed by a few companies. The project is to be ready by mid-2007. At present, we are on a lookout for anchor tenants," said Amit Grover, general manager-corporate marketing at DLF.

In Chennai, nearly 40 acres have been taken up to execute an integrated development at Manppakam.

In Hyderabad, the company is going in for an integrated tech city where 3 million square feet has already been taken up for construction. Both Chennai and Hyderabad projects have been approved as special economic zones (SEZs).

In Chennai, the company is going in for a development of 6 million square feet set on a large landscaped campus over 40 acres. The project masterplan is designed to have multiple independent office blocks (built-to-suit facilities). One million square feet will be ready by February 2007.
