A survey by the online portal MakeMyTrip.com shows that the trend of online hotel reservation is catching up amongst Indian travellers. The survey findings based on response of over 3,000 travellers show that Indian travellers are not focussed on brands and select hotels on the basis of price, location and service. The survey claims that 97% Indians prefer booking hotel online.
"We launched the survey to better understand the hotel reservation behaviour of Indian travellers and the trigger and concerns that shape the decision making process. The results are quite insightful and we will utilise these to build a compelling hotel offerings to further enhance customer confidence in our hotel products,'' said the portal's co founder Rajesh Magow in a statement.
Portals including MakeMyTrip are focussing on hotel reservation and package business as traditional air ticketing business is giving low returns because of drop in commission and margin pressure due to increased competition. MakeMyTrip hopes to increase the contribution of hotel and package business to about 50 % from the current 30 % in the next two years.
