Radico Khaitan bottomline up 60%
 
Radico Khaitan Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 10.95 crore for the quarter ended December 2004, up 60 per cent from Rs 6.85 crore during the same quarter of the previous year.
 
The company's turnover has increased by 36 per cent from Rs 196 crore to Rs 268 crore during the period. According to managing director Abhishek Khiatan, the growth for the quarter was driven by the company's Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) business, while its country liquor and spirits business did not grow as much.
 
"Our IMFL volumes grew by over 50 per cent. We sold pover a million cases in December alone," he said.
 
The company had sold 6.3 million cases in 2003-04. About the impact of rising molasses prices on profits, Khaitan said the company countered it by raising prices during the quarter and by entering into future contracts for the commodity.
 
"Being the largest distillery in the country, we did some intelligent buying of molasses during the quarter," he added.
 
Samtel bottomline rises 146%
 
Samtel Color Ltd, the largest integrated manufacturer of colour picture tubes for television sets in India, reported profit after tax of Rs 19.9 crore for the third quarter of the current financial year, an increase of 146 per cent over the same period last year. Net revenues during the period increased by 2 per cent to Rs 239.4 crore.
 
Export revenues were up by 38 per cent to Rs 39.9 crore on the back of strong volume growth. For the first nine months of the current financial year, PAT was up by 170 times to Rs 45.9 crore, revenues increased by 28 per cent to Rs 741.6 crore. Exports during this period were higher by 83 per cent to Rs 178 crore.
 
Shanthi Gears net up 68%
 
Coimbatore-based Shanthi Gears Ltd reported a 67.83 per cent jump in net profits to Rs 6.5 crore for the quarter ending December 31,2004 compared with Rs 3.92 crore for the same period the previous year.
 
The company's total turnover grew by 50.55 per cent to Rs 35.27crore for the quarter in 2004-05 compared with Rs 23.42 crore for the corresponding period last year. Total expenditure increased to Rs 22.17 crore for the quarter in 2004-05 from Rs 15.03 crore for the same period the previous year.
