While sending counter-comments on the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai)’s consultation paper on ‘Regulatory Framework for OTT services’, stakeholders should clearly state whether or not they want their email address to be published, the regulator said on Thursday.
A number of stakeholders had voiced concern that display of their email addresses might led to spamming, Trai said. However, a name for identification and display should be included in counter-comments, it added. In case one didn’t want her/his email ID to be published, the subject of the email should say, “Do not display my ID”.
Comments on the consultation process were invited till April 24, while counter-comments can be sent till May 8.
In response to the paper, Trai had received about a million comments, which it had uploaded on its site, along with the email IDs and names of the senders. The regulator was criticised for this, with many saying it would have led to a rise in spamming. The Trai website was down for many hours, following the comments being uploaded. It was claimed this was the work of an anonymous hacker.
