Call for smooth functioning of RTI Act

A change in the mindset and attitudes of the bureaucrats besides the spread of legal literacy among the people are found to be essential for the effective implementation of the Right to Information Act in the country.

According to speakers at a national meet on 'Right to Information' (RTI) here on Monday, the major task at present is to get the RTI Act, hailed as of the finest transparency laws, functioning.

The meeting, jointly held by the Centre for Media Studies and Administrative Staff College India, was attended by chief information commissioners of seven states and a cross section of civil society activists among others.
