Campaign for Phase II polls ends in Assam

Campaigning ended today for 11 of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Assam which will go to polls in the second and final phase on April 23 with 121 candidates, including nine women, in the fray.
Eight sitting MPs, six former MPs and five sitting MLAs are among the contestants, with the prominent ones being Union Minister B K Handique (Jorhat), Congress MP from Tezpur Mani Kumar Subba, former Union minister Bijoya Chakraborty of BJP from Guwahati. Other prominent candidates are BJP state unit president Ramen Deka from Mangaldoi, former Congress Union minister and prominent tea community leader Paban Singh Ghatowar from Dibrugarh, former student leader and sitting AGP MP Sarbananda Sonowal from Dibrugarh and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's brother and sitting MP from Kaliabor Deep Gogoi.
