Eega to be released in Hindi by September

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad

Eega (housefly in Telugu), a techno-graphical blockbuster film, is set to be released in Hindi as ‘Makhi’ by the end of August or early September, according to producer D Suresh Babu.

“Makhi will hit 500 screens, both in India and overseas. Though the heat of Eega is strong, the release of Makhi in 3D version is still in a state of limbo as we are yet to identify the number of screens that support 3D,” he said.

He was speaking to Business Standard on the sidelines of a press conference here on Tuesday to announce the expansion plans of Makuta VFX, a full-fledged visual effects company, which offered VFX services to films like Eega, Magadheera and Sri Rama Rajyam in Telugu and Seventh Sense in Tamil.

“We have around 50 artists in-house, both generalists and specialised disciplines such as lighting and animation, at our Hyderabad studio. We are looking at doubling or probably tripling our headcount by next year,” said Pete Draper, co-founder and chief technical director of Makuta.

Makuta is now looking beyond the south film industry and is in negotiations with a Hindi film production house to offer VFX services for the latter’s forthcoming Bollywood film, he said.
