Imp statements not included by SIT: Zakia

Unsatisfied with the documents provided by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Zakia Jaffery, wife of slain former MP Ehsan Jaffery killed during 2002 riots, on Monday gave additional list of documents to a magisterial court alleging that it were crucial to the case but omitted by SIT from the voluminous set given to her.

Zakia has placed list of over 80 documents which she alleged were not given to her by the SIT or the copies given were not legible. She also sought physical examination of the over 20,000 pages set of documents that were submitted by the Supreme Court appointed SIT to the magisterial court.

 

Magistrate B J Ganatra granted Zakia permission to examine the set of documents submitted by SIT on June 2, and scheduled next hearing for June 7. Zakia's lawyer on Monday told the court that initially they had given list of over 20 documents within three days of receiving the huge volume of documents. But on thorough examination it was found that many of the crucial documents and statements by the riot victims against some police officials were not included in the set, he said. He further alleged that those statements or deposition of victims were omitted by the SIT, from the set submitted in the court.

He further gave of list of over 80 documents including statements, saying that they should be provided with the copy of the same. SIT counsel said that they would require time to answer the queries raised by Zakia. Court has given them till till June 7 to file their reply.

Zakia is the original complainant on whose petition the SIT had further investigated allegation against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others. Zakia had alleged that Modi, his cabinet colleagues and state government officials had aided and abetted the 2002 communal riots where over 1200 persons of minority community were killed. She was given copy of the set of documents by the SIT on May 7.
