Inflation moves up to 3.93%

| Driven by higher food prices, inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) moved up to 3.93% for the week ended January 19 as against 3.83% in the previous week. Prices of food items like maize, wheat, arhar, soyabean oil, imported edible oil, sugar and ghee increased during the week under review. WPI-based inflation stood at 6.31% during the corresponding week in the previous year. The government revised inflation rate to 3.11% from provisional 3.01% for the week ended November 24, 2007. |
