Infosys' talks with West Bengal govt on SEZ inconclusive

The meeting between Infosys and the state information technology (IT) on Wednesday concluded without yielding any results, even as threat to the company’s proposed Rajarhat campus getting scrapped looms large. While Infosys Vice-President and Global Head (commercial & corporate) Binod Hampapur stood firm on the demand that the company would not go ahead with a campus without special economic zone (SEZ) status, he said they would wait for further “data points” to emerge before taking the final decision.
The sundown date of the SEZ benefits will become clear only after the Budget. While the date has so far been pegged at March 31, 2012, there is a possibility this might be extended to another year because of the delay in the implementation of the direct tax code (DTC). The DTC is slated to become operational in 2014.
“We have already lost the date,” Hampapur said about the current application on SEZ.
