Jaya write to PM seeks licence for Arasu Cable

BS Reporter Chennai

Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has sought Prime Minister’s intervention in cable digitisation.

In a letter, she has asked the Prime Minister to direct the information and broadcasting ministry to issue licence to state-run Arasu Cable TV Corporation. The Centre has issued licence to nine other operators in Tamil Nadu, but for Arasu, she stated.

The corporation has placed orders for the supply of set-top boxes, conditional access system and subscriber management system and erection of head end at a cost of about Rs 50  crore.

It may be noted, the corporation has been seeking extension of cable digitisation stating that it does not have enough infrastructure (set-top box).

The programme, which was to be implemented on October 31 according to Centre's deadline, has been extended.
