KC(S) flays Left for anti-nuclear stand

`The Left parties have all along been opposing various developmental activities initiated by the Manmohan Singh-led Government and their stiff opposition to the nuclear deal is the latest in the row', KC(S) Chairman T S John told reporters here today.
Noting that by joining the deal, India only stood to benefit in a big way, he urged the Centre to go ahead with signing the deal in the nation's `overall interests'.
On the power crisis suffered by Kerala, he said the situation in the state was so critical with rural areas going without power for about 12 hours a day and several cities also suffering from power failure for long hours against the government's declared loadshedding of half-an-hour a day.

`Having enjoyed several benefits by extending support to the UPA government for four years, the Left parties are now opposing the Centre only with an eye on the ensuing polls', he said.
KC(S) was formed after breaking away from Kerala Congress (Joseph), an ally of the ruling LDF. Though KC(S) is opposed to the LDF, it is not a partner of the Opposition UDF also.
On the ongoing textbook row, John said the LDF government was left with no alternative other than withdrawing the textbook.
`The textbook should be withdrawn as there is strong opposition to its contents. The government is keen to implement its political agenda through the book', he said.
The textbook had been prepared to "thrust communism in the minds of children" which was highly objectionable, he said.
On efforts to unite various Kerala Congress groups under one banner, John said discussions were still going on to forge unity among various parties.
