Milk prices up in Himachal again

Baldev S Chauhan New Delhi/ Shimla

The prices of milk have been raised by Rs 1 and Rs 2 per kg by most of the private and government run companies in Himachal Pradesh.

Prices of other diary products have also gone up.

The new prices came into effect from Wednesday. This is the fourth time, in the last one year that the prices have risen in the hill state.

Most of the milk sold in the state arrives from neighbouring state of Punjab,Haryana and Chandigarh. These companies had issued a letter last week to retailers telling them about the price rise.

However the state run HP Milkfed has said it will not raise the prices unlike others.

Apart from consumers even the retailers are unhappy with the price hike saying the price rise benefits only whosale suppliers and not retailers even though their work load has gone up.

Inderjit Singh general secretary of the Shimla traders association said the retail traders of the state are holding a meeting soon to chalk out a strategy to protest against the frequent rise in milk prices.
