Nashik civic body chalks out 25-year traffic plan

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), with the help of the Mumbai-based Consulting Engineering Services (CES), has chalked out a traffic plan projecting the rise in traffic in the next 25 years (2031).

The traffic plan, which has been divided into two phases "" 2007 to 2016 and 2017 to 2026 - includes proposals for flyovers at various congested locations of the city including Mumbai Naka, Dwarka, Pathardi Phata, Adgaon Naka and Shalimar areas. Besides, the CES has recommended NMC to undertake the city bus service.

The traffic plan includes the proposals of four-laning (within the NMC limits) of Mumbai-Agra highway, Pune highway, Aurangabad Road, Dindori Road and Peth Road, eight-laning of Shalimar, Gangapur Road, Trimbak Road and College Road, and six-laning of Jail Road and Tilak Path.

Non-availability of adequate parking space is also the major problem the city is facing due to the number of vehicles rising every year.

Considering this, multi-storeyed parking has been planned at major locations in the city, including Dwarka, College Road, CBS and Raviwar Peth.

The population of Nashik city by 2031 has been projected to touch 37 lakh. In 1985, the number of vehicles were 39,356. Two years ago, the number of vehicles was 3,13,973.

The number of vehicles in the city will reach 16 lakh by 2020 and 37 lakh by 2031, according to the survey conducted by CES.
