The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) hit out against former police officer turned activist YP Singh for targeting the party president and union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar alleging his involvement in irrigation scam in Maharashtra. The party came in open in support of Pawar and said he had done nothing wrong by taking initiative in the development of a hill city project in Maharashtra under the stipulated policy.
NCP clarified that there was not a single hill station come up at the national level and also in Maharashtra since 1947 and therefore Pawar took the initiative. He would continue in future too under the prescribed policy provisions.
State NCP spokesman Nawab Malik questioned Singh for doing media trial when he as a lawyer was associated with a petition pending in the high court with regard to the Lavasa project. “He should have made these arguments in the high court instead of resorting to a media trial. This is a poor attempt to get publicity.” Malik claimed. "Why Singh is silent on the allegations levelled by Arvind Kejriwal against BJP president Nitin Gadkari for allegedly taking over farm land," he asked.
As far as shares held by Pawar’s MP daughter Supriya Sule and her husband Sadanand Sule, the party spokesman said they have already sold those shares and they were no more associated with the Lavgasa project.
On the meeting attended by Pawar and former state chief minister and senior IAS officers in a guest house in Lavasa, Mailk said it was not a secret meeting as its minutes were prepared.
