Odisha seeks investors help for pre-project activities

The Odisha Chief Secretary BK Patnaik has urged the investors to participate in pre-project activities as the state plans to spend around Rs 1 lakh crore on infrastructure development during the 12th plan period.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 3rd Odisha Symposium, organised by Invest Bhubaneswar.
Patnaik said, about Rs 12,000 crore will be spent in the power transmission sector and urged the investors to help the state in undertaking feasibility study, bankable study, project report preparation etc.
In addition, Odisha has allocated about Rs 5,000 crore in developing the irrigation infrastructure like setting up of conventional dams and barrages, mega irrigation projects etc. The state targets to irrigate around two lakh hectares through mega irrigations projects during the plan period.
Similar investments are also mooted for construction of bridges and roads and development of health and agriculture services, etc. In a separate development, the national budget carrier Indigo, which started its international operation from Bhubaneswar-Bangkok via Kolkata recently, plans to start its Bhubaneswar-Bangkok direct flights from March, 2013. “Indigo will start operations from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok via Kolkata as we don’t have immigration and custom facilities. We are hopeful there will be direct flight from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok from March next year after the Biju Patnaik airport gets the international status,” said Debasish Patnaik, convenor of the Invest Bhubaneswar event.
In an investment proposal, Bahrain based angel investor Manoj kumar Tripathy has tied up with Rainbow Creation, a city based animation production studio for setting up of an animation studio. “I will buy the equity so that the money invested in its capital will go for constructing an animation studio,” said Tripathy but declined to divulge the details.
Similarly, business consulting firm Frost & Sullivan is coordinating to bring in investors for developing a township spread over 100 acres of land in Kalinganagar area in Jajpur district, Patnaik said.
