OPTCL to take up Rs 1211 cr transmission projects on PPP mode

Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) plans to take up power transmission projects worth Rs 1211 crore on the public private partnership (PPP) mode. This is expected to help meet the state's power transmission capacity which is projected at 19500 MVA by 2016-17 to evacuate surplus power to be produced from projects proposed by independent power producers (IPPs).

The projects to be taken up on the PPP mode include Rs 108-crore Meramundali line, 400 KV sub-station at Khuntuni with 400 KV Duburi line and 400 KV Mendhasala line at a cost of Rs 248 crore and 400 KV sub-station at Paradeep involving investment of Rs 134 crore to name a few.

 

“The state government has received many project proposals on the PPP mode including those to be taken up in the transmission sector. Since Odisha has attracted proposals from IPPs to set up power stations, we need to create infrastructure for evacuation of power”, said Chief Secretary B K Patnaik after a meeting of the empowered committee on infrastructure.

Patnaik has stressed on expediting the transmission projects planned on the PPP mode and called for preparation of final feasibility reports for such projects by the second week of August this year.

It may be noted that OPTCL has initiated steps for augmentation, renovation and installation of new projects worth Rs 4516 crore from its own accruals. The project portfolio includes 62 augmentation projects (Rs 43 crore), 157 220 KV and 132 KV sub stations (Rs 3803 crore), 16 400 KV ring projects (Rs 989 crore) and five IPP projects (Rs 125 crore).The meeting apart from reviewing transmission projects also touched upon residential complexes planned by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) at Chandrasekharpur, Gadakana and Damana localities in the city on the PPP mode.
