Orissa plans to control rising organised crime

The new legislation will be similar to the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
The bill is being drafted and will be introduced in the state assembly during next session. It says that confessions of a criminal before police should be considered as evidence.
Besides, the proposed law will have provisions to accept telephonic conversations between criminals as evidence.
Officials say this will help in higher rate of convictions. "The new law will also have provisions of death penalty," said one.
