Pranab led panel to discuss wheat imports

The government has decided to form a committee headed by Pranab Mukherjee, Union external affairs minister, to look into the issue of wheat imports.

This was informed by Sharad Pawar, Union agriculture minister, at the India International Potato Expo, 2008, in Kolkata today. He also said India could become a big importer of agriculture products, if states do not focus on increasing farm productivity.

The members of the committee include P Chidambaram, Union finance minister, Kamal Nath, Union commerce minster and Montek Singh Ahluwalia,  deputy chairman, planning commission.
