Revenue collection up 11% in April

Revenue collection, in tax and non-tax segments, in the state in the first month of this fiscal (April) has registered growth of 11.02 per cent at Rs 1063.05 crore against Rs 957.51 crore collected in the corresponding month of previous fiscal.
While the state's own tax revenue at Rs 590.81 crore saw a marginal drop of 2.04 per cent compared to Rs 603.08 crore posted in the comparable period, non-tax revenue collection at Rs 472.24 crore recorded spike of 33.24 per cent over Rs 354.43 crore.
Total revenue receipts of the state, inclusive of grants from the Centre and shared tax in April stood at Rs 2191.57 crore, meaning a growth of 12.65 per cent over same period of 2011-12.
Within the state's own tax revenue segment, sales tax was the biggest contributor at Rs 279.39 crore though it clocked a measly growth of 2.63 per cent.
Collection of state excise, however, saw a sharp decline of 21.66 per cent at Rs 47.85 crore. Land revenue, too, slumped 38.90 per cent in the same period with the collection being Rs 22.7 crore. Taxes on vehicles rose 9.27 per cent to reach Rs 71.84 crore.

In non-tax revenue bracket, mining revenue collection at Rs 394.24 crore had the lion's share, posting increase of 28.74 per cent over April 2011.
Enthused by robust collections in tax and non-tax revenue segments in 2011-12, the Chief Secretary has set an overall revenue target of Rs 24,062 crore for 2012-13, higher than the Budgetary estimate (BE) of Rs 20,810.28 crore for the fiscal.
Mining revenue collection target by the Chief Secretary has been pegged at Rs 5700 crore for this fiscal, 35.71 per cent higher than BE of Rs 4200 crore after the segment contributed a whopping Rs 4517.10 crore to the state exchequer in 2011-12.
Revenue collection, in the tax and non-tax segments in 2011-12 has clocked growth of 21.44 per cent per cent over the corresponding period of 2010-11.
Overall revenue in this period totaled to Rs 19397.46 crore as against Rs 15973.04 crore recorded in the year-ago period.
The state has achieved 120.44 per cent of the budgetary estimates (BE) of revenue collection pegged at Rs 16104.89 crore for 2011-12.
