BS Reporter Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar

Traders in the state suffered business loss to the tune of Rs 3000 crore due to the 12 hour bandh called by the non-Congress parties on Thursday opposing the hike in petrol prices effected recently by oil marketing firms.

“As all shops remained closed throughout the state responding to the day long strike called by the political parties , traders have lost business worth Rs 3000 crore today”, rued Sudhakar Panda , Secretary, Odisha Baybasayai Mahasangha.

Normal life in Odisha was hit on Thursday during the bandh called by NDA, left parties and the ruling Biju Janata Dal in the state.

Shops, business establishments, schools, colleges and offices remained closed throughout the state. In the state capital, roads wore a deserted look as public transport virtually came to a grinding halt.

The movement of trains and commercial vehicles was also badly hit in several parts of the state due to dawn-to-dusk Odisha bandh.
