System to monitor traffic launched

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
The city police on Friday launched traffic monitoring system assisted by a network of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to decongest the vehicular movement.

The vehicular speed during peak hour traffic in the city is 10 km per hour. The police plan to double the speed of the vehicles by decongesting the traffic using video surveillance.

The police have selected Bosch's CCTV camera technology for the new traffic monitoring system. As many as 40 Bosch cameras with zooming, panning and tilting capabilities have been deployed at strategic locations to monitor and control traffic at key junctions.

"The monitoring system consists of BVMS (video management software). It will help the police in monitoring the traffic using video feed at the central command centre. The Bosch CCTV system will help the traffic police in ensuring disciplined driving," Bosch Security Systems India Business Head Dhiraj Wali said.

He said the company is eyeing the Indian market for growth. "We will introduce more video surveillance solutions into the Indian market that will make IP video systems easier to manage and more cost-effective," he added.
