US invites Chidambaram for in-depth talks to combat terrorism

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Home Minister P Chidambaram has been invited by the US to have in-depth discussions to find ways of how New Delhi and Washington can cooperate more to combat terrorism.

Addressing a press-conference, a day after presenting his credentials, US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer said "we will continue to seek justice for those killed and injured in Mumbai (26/11 attacks) and we will work closely with India to share with you the lessons we learned in the wake of our tragic terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

"To that end, we have invited the Indian Home Minister Chidambaram to visit the US for additional discussions on precisely how our two nations can cooperate."

He said the US stands firmly with India against terrorism. "We cannot forget that six Americans were killed along with dozens of Indians and so many others in that tragic and brutal attack," the new ambassador said.
