Vehicles ride on festive fervour

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Indore
With the festive season arriving, Indore is again seeing a vehicle boom. The number of both two-wheelers and four-wheelers has increased manifold in this industrial capital of Madhya Pradesh, especially during the last five years.

Fuelling this growth is the hectic development activity which the city has been witnessing.

Usually, people go for new vehicles during September and December as the period is marked by festivals and it is during this season that the retailers/dealers dole out attractive offers. Around 75 per cent of the vehicles are registered during this period.

Confirming the trend, superintendent of Regional Transport Officer's (RTO) office, C S Dhuldhoey, said, "The vehicles being registered at the RTO's office during 'Navratri' and 'Diwali' season are more than those registered in other months of the year."

However, the four-wheelers saw a spurt in sales during the last three years only, he added.

While there were just 23,970 vehicles on the city roads in 1990-91, this increased to 36,117 in the year 2000-01. By the end of March 2006, the number rose to 68,293.
