Rubber board targets 100000 tn exports

The Rubber Board is targeting exports of 100,000 tonne of natural rubber in the next 2 to 3 years, said Chairman Sajen Peter Monday. The Board is focusing more on exports to shield domestic rubber prices from the volatility in global markets, he said.

In the current year too, rubber exports are likely to exceed the targeted 40,000 tonne, he said.

"Due to high international prices we may be able to register incremental increase in exports during the year,'' he said. Rubber imports into the country from April 1 to September 12 totalled 34,157 tonne, he said.

Most of the imports were contracted during the first quarter of the current fiscal, when international prices were lower than domestic prices, he said.
