Wkly Review: Sensex up for the 3rd straight week

| The Sensex ended higher for the third straight week gaining 208 points at a close of 10,609. The gains were mainly on account of heavy buying on Friday following global stock market rally. The index touched a high of 10,627 and a low of 9902 - a swing of 725 points during the week. INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS Reliance was the biggest index mover, the stock added 56 points to the index followed by ITC (46 points). Infosys (29 points), Wipro (20 points), HDFC Bank and Larsen & Toubro (16 points each) were the other major contributors. ICICI Bank accounted for the loss of 29 points to the index. SBI took away 13 points and Ranbaxy 12 points. INDEX GAINERS & LOSERS Wipro was the major gainer among the Sensex stocks, and the stock zoomed over 9% to Rs 514. Tata Steel soared 6.5% to Rs 182 and HDFC Bank added 5.5% to Rs 791. Reliance, Hero Honda, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, BHEL, Gujarat Ambuja, HLL, Maruti and Grasim were up 3-5% each this week. Ranbaxy slumped 7.6% to Rs 356. Cipla, SBI, ICICI Bank, NTPC and Reliance dropped 3-5% each. |
