Top-seeded Novak Djokovic has reached the fifth US Open final in his career on Saturday by outlasting Swiss ninth seed Stanislas Wawrinka 2-6, 7-6 (7/4), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

According to Sport24, the Serb, a six-time major winner and 2011 US Open champion, will play for the title Monday against 12-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal of Spain, who defeated France's Richard Gasquet in his semi-final match.

In an epic match that lasted four hours and nine minutes, Djokovic withstood a tough attack by Wawrinka to book his 12th Grand Slam trophy match and fourth US Open final in a row, adding that after the match, the sellout crowd at the Arthur Ashe Stadium gave both the players a standing ovation.

Praising Wawrinka for playing an aggressive game, Djokovic said that the Swiss played a better game than him, and admitted that he found it very hard to adjust and find his rhythm as he was made to run a lot by Wawrinka.

Despite his US Open exit, Wawrinka, who had played in his first Grand Slam semi-final, said that it was a good tournament for him, adding that he had given his best in the game against Djokovic.

Despite Nadal leading their personal rivalry 21-15, the victory in the semi-final will reportedly ensure that the Serb will stay atop the rankings after the US Open as he improved to 13-2 with his 11th victory in a row over Wawrinka.
