Basic materials shares surge

Basic materials stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Basic Materials index rising 51.58 points or 1.93% at 2730.24 at 09:48 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Basic Materials index, Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (up 6.15%), Sunflag Iron & Steel Company Ltd (up 6.14%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (up 5.68%),Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 5.21%),Tata Steel BSL Ltd (up 5.2%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Vedanta Ltd (up 4.87%), Sarda Energy & Minerals Ltd (up 4.82%), Kalyani Steels Ltd (up 4.8%), JSW Steel Ltd (up 4.57%), and Tata Steel Ltd (up 4.48%).

 

On the other hand, Astron Paper & Board Mill Ltd (down 9.95%), Uniply Industries Ltd (down 9.06%), and Andhra Petrochemicals Ltd (down 5.89%) moved lower.

At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 208.79 or 0.52% at 40373.82.

The Nifty 50 index was up 72.95 points or 0.61% at 11963.55.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 95.24 points or 0.7% at 13696.16.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 32.25 points or 0.69% at 4729.42.

On BSE,1130 shares were trading in green, 470 were trading in red and 77 were unchanged.
