Energy stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Energy index rising 121.64 points or 3.85% at 3281.13 at 09:53 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Energy index, Reliance Industries Ltd (up 6.15%), Castrol India Ltd (up 3.44%), Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (up 3.12%), and Petronet LNG Ltd (up 0.68%), were the top gainers.
On the other hand, Goa Carbon Ltd (down 4.96%), Adani Gas Ltd (down 4.64%), and Aegis Logistics Ltd (down 3.18%) moved lower.
At 09:53 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 305.24 or 1.14% at 26368.79.
The Nifty 50 index was down 57.8 points or 0.74% at 7743.25.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 114.62 points or 1.29% at 8762.96.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 43.65 points or 1.36% at 3177.1.
On BSE,427 shares were trading in green, 801 were trading in red and 66 were unchanged.
