Energy stocks tumble
Energy stocks were trading with losses, with the S&P BSE Energy index decreasing 88.78 points or 1.77% at 4920.93 at 13:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Energy index, Goa Carbon Ltd (down 4.99%), Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals Ltd (down 4.09%),Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (down 4%),Castrol India Ltd (down 3.58%),Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (down 2.24%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Gujarat Gas Ltd (down 2.15%), Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Ltd (down 2.09%), Panama Petrochem Ltd (down 2.05%), Reliance Industries Ltd (down 2.03%), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (down 1.77%).
At 13:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 299.25 or 0.73% at 40899.41.
The Nifty 50 index was down 92.15 points or 0.76% at 12037.35.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 135.89 points or 0.92% at 14704.8.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 39.95 points or 0.78% at 5051.01.
On BSE,712 shares were trading in green, 1586 were trading in red and 128 were unchanged.
